Aland Islands is a part of Finland, but I always recommend, and I've always myself, flown to Stockholm (Sweden) first before making my way to the Aland Islands. I've done this not only because I prefer to speak Swedish, but also because it's much easier and there are much more options when it comes to getting to Aland.
Aland has an airport, but I seldom tend to fly into Aland. However, it is an http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifoption for the people that don't like ferries all that much. (Air Aland offers flights daily, leaving twice a day from Stockholm to Mariehamn. Flying is more expensive, but it will get you there in about 15 minutes.
The other option is taking a ferry over to Aland. There are a multiple options available here, either you can do a bus (1h) + boat (2h) combo that will take you to the islands quick (but these boats aren't as nice as the cruise ferries), or you can take an overnight cruise to the island (the recommended option). There are several companies that do cruises from Stockholm to Mariehamn (Aland), Viking Line, Silja Line and Birka Cruises.
Our recommendation is that all we all try to make the same cruise boat leaving for Aland. That way we can enjoy a relaxing cruise together, eat at one of the many restaurants available on the boat and dance the night way together! :) Also, we will most likely be able to get this cruise (with accommodation) for free... The next day we'll wake up (hopefully not too tired) on the Aland Islands ready for the adventure to continue.
If you would like to be a part of this "group cruise", please get with us so that we can plan a date that will fit all of us. Tuesday the 24th is our suggestion.
